birth control pills

The Whole Journey

celtictree's picture

After only 18 months of being on birth control pills (five different types), I have given up on it. The first two gave me unbearable cramps and sore breasts. The third one made me a total emotional wreck for half the month. The fourth and fifth gave me migraines every day. Dh and I really thought long and hard about the choice to go off of it. We have been married a little over 5 months, and because of my age (32), we want to start TTC in the next few months. That's the background, which leads me to today.

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I just got off of the pill (YAZ) 3 weeks ago.

Three days after I stopped taking the pill I had a light period that lasted 4 days. Now 11 days after the 1st day of my period I have been really nauseated, I have had a head ache for 3 days straight and by breast are swollen and tender.

Is it possible that I have already ovulated and I am showing signs of pregnancy or could it be that I am experiencing the effects of being off birth control for the first time in 2 years?

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I have been on BC for about five years. My husband and I are newly weds, I went off the pill on November 6th the start of my cycle. I was approximately 9 days late for my period in December once I did start, it has been really light and bright red. This is not normal for me I usually flow at a steady medium pace for five days. I started on Friday and it is Sunday and I am not bleeding at all.

Miscarriage Facts

Intercourse, falling, and exercise does not typically cause a miscarriage. The fetus is well protected by the mother's bones and muscle as well as by the amniotic fluid. There is also no evidence that conceiving while taking birth control pills increases the risk of miscarriage.

Getting Pregnant While Breastfeeding

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I had a baby 7 months ago and am on the pill currently, but I was wondering how would I go about getting pregnant again.

I don't know if I'm ovulating as I breastfeed with starting the baby on other foods as well. Would I be ovulating on the same schedule as I did before I got pregnant? It only took a month of trying before I got pregnant the first time so if that was the case I'd have a general idea of when I'm fertile. Right now I have no clue.

Thanks a bunch.

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I stayed at my boyfriend's house all weekend Friday the 15-16th and we had unprotected sex. My boyfriend ejaculated. I normally take the pill but completely forgot to take it on the 15th. I had a bit to drink.

The thing is I woke up Monday and found a bit of blood in my pants and again Tuesday and today. I'm not due on my period for 3 weeks. The blood isn't really a normal color. It's like a yellowish color. What does this mean? I'm never early either. Could I be pregnant?
