The Sponge

The Sponge is a polyurethane foam that contains three special spermicides. It releases a spermicidal gel, that creates a barrier, protecting against any sperm passing through to the cervix. The spermicide successfully immobilizes and kills the sperm on contact. If used properly, it has a success rate of 90%.

Spermicides

Spermicide comes in many forms. Currently on the market, we have a variety to choose from. There are foams, suppositories, films, creams and gels available without a prescription. Spermicides have a success rate of 85% if used properly. It is suggested that you use a condom in addition to the spermicide or Pill.

The Female Condom

The female condom is made from polyurethane. It lines the inside of the vagina and covers the cervix securely to prevent pregnancy. It looks like an inverted male condom, but made especially for women. Its success rate is 95% if used properly.

Diaphragm

A diaphragm is similar to a cervical cap. It is a soft latex, dome shaped barrier that protects you against unwanted pregnancy. As with the cervical cap, if used correctly, it has a success rate of 87%. A spermicide is added to immobilize or even kill any sperm that comes in contact with it.

Cervical Cap

A cervical cap is a barrier to prevent sperm from even reaching the cervix. It is a little rubber shaped "dome", that if used correctly with spermicide, can be 87% effective in preventing pregnancy. It is one of the few drug free birth control methods available for women currently on the market.
