    QUESTION

    Dear Midwife,
    I have been on the Minera IUD for 5 years and am getting ready to have it replaced.

    My husband and I are thinking of having another child in the near future and I am scared that the IUD will effect our chances of this.

    I have 3 children from a previous relationship and want more then anything to give my husband a child of his own, but I am scared that it may not happen.

    I know the Dr. mention that I might have to have my first c-section ever. I am worried that the IUD will effect how the cervix closes. What are the risks?

    I meet with the doctor again on Friday. I have been having non-stop doctor visits and ultrasounds. Is this a big problem? What happens if I go into labor with the IUD embedded in the cervix?

    They have tried to remove it and it wouldn't come out. I am going out of my mind.

    Can a person successfully carry a baby that was conceived while an IUD was in place? The symptoms of pregnancy were all there and a test came out positive. I began bleeding and passing softball sized clots. Is that a possible miscarriage?

    Intercourse, falling, and exercise does not typically cause a miscarriage. The fetus is well protected by the mother's bones and muscle as well as by the amniotic fluid. There is also no evidence that conceiving while taking birth control pills increases the risk of miscarriage.
