QUESTION
Dear Ms Ultrasound,
I hope you will be able to shed some light. Yesterday I had my Level II Ultrasound. Everything supposedly looked good according to my doctor except that he said that the technician was unable to get a view of the baby's stomach. I never heard about this before. My doctor did not appear too worried because he said that my fluid levels were normal. Have you ever heard of a fetus developing without a stomach?Ultrasound Found Rim of Fluid Around Head
QUESTION
Dear Ms Ultrasound,
At the 12-week ultrasound, the tech / midwife found swelling around the head, like a outer rim of fluid around the head. She said vaguely this is usually sign of chromosomal problems, but we must wait 2 weeks more for doctors and an amniocentesis. What exactly could be wrong? Can this be something that just looks strange now? Thanks for any help!
NancyWhy Should I Have a Level II Ultrasound?
QUESTION
Dear Ms Ultrasound,
I am 37 years old and 17-weeks pregnant. My doctor has asked me if I want to schedule a level II ultrasound instead of a regular ultrasound at 20 weeks. He says it is usually recommended for expectant mothers my age.I have indicated to him that aborting the pregnancy if something is abnormal is not an option for me. I also indicated that I do not wish to have any tests for which there is no other action/advantage that can result from the information. Based on my information can you outline any advantages for me taking the Level II Ultrasound?
