Dear Midwife,
Hi, I am 25 years old and I just found out on Jan 8th that I am pregnant. The thing about it is that they could not find the baby.
Three years ago I lost another child through miscarriage and I am scared about the light pink color when I wipe myself. Granted it is not there everytime but I am still worried and slight pain on my right side.
Dear Midwife,
I have been with my partner since i was 14, so I know he is the one for me, and we both feel ready to have a baby, we are in a stable place and it is all I have ever wanted.
However; I am on methotrexate, for rheumatoid arthritis, and I take a 5mg dose weekly, which, in January is due to be cut down to 2.5mg. do you think this will be a problem, if I do get pregnant? As I really want a baby now more than ever.
If it is due to be a problem, what will be the risks involved?
Dear Fitness Expert,
I'm trying to get pregnant and wonder about taking certain over-the-counter medicines such as aspirin, Tylenol, Chlor-trimeton (for nasal drainage from allergies) and Sudafed™. Would any of these medicines hurt the baby during the first trimester or later?
Dear Midwife,
I have herpes and to avoid outbreaks, I take large doses of Lysine as soon as I start to feel an outbreak coming on. Also, if I feel a cold coming on, I take large doses of Echinacea to ward off the cold. Are these things safe while pregnant and how much does the dosage matter?
Mothers who require medication for a chronic health condition will be faced with a dilemma: continue therapy and possibly risk harm to their baby or risk under-treating a serious illness, which can be harmful to both. How do you know what drugs are safe during pregnancy?
