  • How Can I Get Pregnant? A Tribute to My Hero Angie Wilson

I'm a huge Angie Wilson fan, so I figured I'd do a quick write up.

Angella Wilson first hit the blogosphere in November 2008 with her blog “How Can I Get Pregnant” to document her trying to conceive (TTC) journey. Wilson became popular within the TTC community for her unwillingness to give into infertility. Four years prior, at 32, Wilson, was diagnosed with premature menopause and was told that she would never get pregnant. At 36, she became determined to prove her doctors wrong.

  • Calories During Pregnancy

    QUESTION

    Dear Nutritionist,
I am 5 weeks pregnant and trying to determine a healthy diet for me and my baby. Before becoming pregnant, I was trying to lose weight and was on a 1500 calorie per day diet, losing about a pound a week. (I exercise 3-4 times per week, have a BMI of 22.5 and keep a detailed food log.)

Now that I am pregnant, I'm unsure how to adjust my diet. I no longer want to lose weight but I want to make healthy choices for both of us. I enjoy keeping a food log and like the idea of a concrete number in regards to calories to shoot for each day.

  • Im Nervous.... First pregnancy

    QUESTION

    Dear Midwife,
My name is Ashley (22) and DH is Josh (24). I went through IVF in January and it resulted in my first pregnancy. We are so happy but I find myself sooooo scared! I have the "what ifs" you know "what if we don't see a hb?"

I had my ER 1/24 and the ET 1/29. 2/6 my first blood test was 144 and my second 2/9 was 655. No one really has explained what these numbers mean .

Tomorrow is a 3rd blood test and I just hope everything is where it should be. I have been told that we are going to do the first u/s at 7wks. Why so far away.

  • Early Ultrasound Results

    QUESTION

    Dear Midwife,
I had my first ultrasound today. I'm not sure how pregnant I am. My last period was Nov 5th, but I have 35 day cycles, so I'm roughly 5 weeks. The doctor saw the gestational sac, but nothing else during today's sonogram.

Should I be concerned we didn't see a yolk sac or a baby at this stage? I'm a first time mom and very anxious.

    Thanks.

  • To Marry or Not to Marry

    QUESTION

    Dear Mr. Dad,
My girlfriend and I are about to become parents. She wants to get married before the baby is born, but I don’t really see the point. Can’t unmarried parents be just as committed as married ones?

  • Pregnancy and Birth are Sexy? You Bet!

Pregnancy and birth are very "sexy" topics. A pregnancy is a very obvious sign of a sexual activity but more than that, they demonstrate that a woman's sexual cycle is in full bloom and that she is fulfilling her biological destiny to reproduce.

  • Armpit Rash

    QUESTION

    Dear Midwife,
Two days ago, I noticed a red patch of skin under my left armpit. It is not itchy. I stopped wearing my deodorant - a natural deodorant that I have been using for five months now. What could be causing this? Should I be concerned?

  • Pregnancy and Sex

It is common for couples to wonder whether sex is safe when they discover they are pregnant. Unless your health care provider advises you otherwise, sex during pregnancy is safe for both you and your baby.

A year after Allie was born, I feel like I've fallen off of everybody's radar. It's like you're expected to do life -- go to the job, do housework, drive around, shop, pay bills, get gas, etc. -- just like before, as if the infant you're still super responsible for is not a factor at all.
