  • How Safe is a Home Birth?

My main concern about having another home birth is having a birth in which the chord begins to come out first. I have been told by my doctor that this is a life threatening situation which needs immediate ceasarian intervention. What is the midwife's approach to this situation?

  • Born into Water

It was relaxed, I felt in control, I feel I kept my dignity, I didn't have to fight to get the birth I wanted. It was an amazing experience. I wish all women could have a birth like that!

  • Abbie's Arrival: A Home Birth Story

Emma was considered high risk this pregnancy. Most people told her to just suck it up and have a c-section. She chose to follow her gut instincts, and fight for what she felt was right, even if it went outside of what most people consider "normal" for today's child bearing mothers.

  • Birthing Tristan

As I walked back through the house I once again felt really stressed by how messy everything was, muttering to myself, "Just watch me go into labor tonight, messy house, puking kids, I could really do with a shower, I'm not wearing anything cute blah blah blah..."

  • Agreeing on a Birth Plan

    QUESTION

My partner wants a hospital birth complete with an OB/GYN. My preference is a home birth with a midwife but I was willing to compromise on using a birth center. He's not budging.

What are some ways that I can help him move away from this sterile birth experience to one that I'm more comfortable with other than just telling him "I'm not doing it!" and creating another war?

I get that is how his sisters and friends' wives delivered but this is MY birth experience, too!

  • Where Is The Best Place To Give Birth?

    QUESTION

    Dear Midwife,
My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant. I have read about preconception and pregnancy but my question has to do with birthing choices. When I was born my mother used a midwife at home and when my husband was born he had a doctor in a hospital. Which do you think is better? I like the idea of a home birth but when my mother-in-law was having my husband, he got stuck coming out. Is that possibly a genetic thing? He had very big shoulders! Could that possibly happen to us?

  • Sandy's Surprise -- Unassisted Home Birth

I'm actually thinking of nixing the midwife anyway. Not because I want to give birth in the base hospital (ew!), but because I think I want to give birth at home -- alone. Tim is so not comfortable with this
