38 Weeks, Still No Milk?
QUESTION
Dear Midwife,
I'm currently 38 weeks along, and I have read in several books and websites, that I should be producing some kind of pre-milk substance? Nothing so far, does that mean I will not be able to breastfeed when my baby is born, I'm just a little concerned?Breasts, Nursing and Lovemaking
QUESTION
Dear Lactation Consultant,
I am 6 weeks away from having my first child. I am a black woman age 26, and I am starting to develop some milk I guess, because my breasts are swelling a little now and leaking just a little, is that normal to start developing milk at this point in my pregnancy? How much milk should I be developing between now and my babies birth?Breast Changes During Pregnancy
QUESTION
Dear Lactation Consultant,
It's been 6 years since I had my first child. I am now pregnant with the second. About how far into pregnancy are you when you start to have the oil come out of your breast pores? Thanks,
LisaBreast Compression
The purpose of breast compression is to continue the flow of milk to the baby once the baby no longer drinks ("open mouth wide -- pause -- then close mouth" type of suck) on his own, and thus keep him drinking milk.
Should I Do Anything About the Fluid Coming From My Breasts?
QUESTION
Dear Lactation Consultant,
This is my first pregnancy. I've been having a little bit of clear/white fluid from my breasts. This began when I was starting my 6th month of pregnancy. Is this pretty normal? Is there anything I should or shouldn't be doing to release it?Colostrum: It's Yellow but is it Really Gold?
It is not uncommon to hear a mother nursing a sick newborn or relactating for a sick child to refer to her colostrum (or pre-milk in the case of a relactating or adoptive breastfeeding mother) as "liquid gold".
