I am 23 weeks pregnant with my third child. I had two very straightforward pregnancy with my previous two children, apart from a breech which ended up in a caesarean.
This pregnancy has been problematic since the very beginning with cramping and red bleeding on and off during the first trimester and constant headaches(despite normal blood pressure).
Jaundice is due to a buildup in the blood of bilirubin, a yellow pigment that comes from the breakdown of old red blood cells. It is normal for old red blood cells to break down, but the bilirubin formed does not usually cause jaundice because the liver metabolizes it and gets rid of it into the gut.
Babies born before the 37th week of gestation are considered to be born prematurely. The risk of complications increases the earlier the baby is born. Below is a list of the most common complications that a premature newborn may face.
For some reason my blood platelet levels were down, a condition I passed on to Henry and Augustus. So this morning I was told both babies received platelet transfusions in the middle of the night to prevent internal bleeding.
