Hi there. Yesterday I went for an ultrasound scan and the sonographer told me I have a small (4mm) hematoma. I've had no symptoms, except some abdominal cramping. Baby's heatbeat seemed good --179 bpm.
Two questsions:
1. Is this bad news? How common are these blood clots?
I'm 6 weeks and 5 days. On my first ultrasound, they found a little bit of bleeding under the placenta but didn't tell me if it's bad or not. Should I be worried?
Dear Midwife,
I have been experiencing vaginal bleeding throughout my pregnancy. I had a particularly bad incident at about 10 weeks while I was at work. I began gushing blood and by the time I made it to the ER I had soaked through 3 pads. The baby’s heart was beating so the ER doctor said to monitor the bleeding and follow up with my OB.
Dear Midwife, History: I am 28 years old. My husband and I went through infertility treatments to get pregnant, including one failed IVF and ending in a successful IVF. This is our first child and my first pregnancy.
Dear Ms Ultrasound,
Just curious to see if you could give me a little insight. Last week I had an ultrasound at 9 weeks. My dates matched up and the baby had a heart rate of 157 which I was told was good. However, they noticed a rather large bleed and they referred to it as an "implantation bleed." She said they commonly see this and usually you bleed or your body reabsorbs the blood. I have had no bleeding at all.
A bunch of us over at the October board are having bleeding problems yet have healthy heart beats for our babies. So many women say they know of women who've had periods during their pregnancies and bled consisently and had healthy babies yet we are not hearing this from our doctors!
Dear Ms Ultrasound,
My name is Royann and I am just about 7 weeks pregnant. I just had an ultrasound and the doctor said that the baby looked great and had a strong heartbeat, but just a couple inches away from the baby is another sac that looked like it had some fluid in it and maybe a yolk sac.
The doctor didn't know if this was a subchrionic hematoma or if it was going to turn into another baby. I have another ultrasound in two weeks. He said that my chances of having a miscarriage are greater. Could you please tell me why that is?
