Patients are walking into my office frequently with migraine headaches. I've put together a list of possible triggers and recommendations that may help. Hopefully this will help all of you who want to get these headaches out of your life.
Dear Nutritionist,
Hello, I am 25 weeks pregnant and have terrible headaches usually daily. I had them in my first trimester, but they have gotten much worse. Usually they are there when I wake up in the morning and last all day, but sometimes they don't start until around noon.
I have been on bed rest for the past 6 weeks and will have to be on it until the baby arrives.
I drink plenty of water 8-10 glasses a day. I have always drank a minimum of 8 glasses a day. Could I be needing more than that because I am accustomed to drinking that much?
Do you feel "beaten up," tired, achy, stressed out, anxious, depressed, forgetful, headachy, or lacking energy and focus? You may be experiencing a three-pronged assault on your body and mind consisting of: non-stop stress, a shortage of the feel-good brain chemical serotonin, and your ever-shifting hormones.
From the moment you bring your baby home from the hospital, you begin to undergo more life changes than probably ever before. As your baby's life begins, a new life also begins for you. As countless others have told you, "your life will never be the same again".
Migraine headaches are different from stress or tension headaches. Migraine headaches are a type of vascular headache that is a result from blood vessels dilating in the brain. Migraine headaches are like a lottery when it comes to pregnancy.
Experiencing headaches during pregnancy is one of the most common discomforts and complaints. Headaches may occur at anytime during your pregnancy but they tend to be most common during the first and third trimesters.
Dizziness or feeling faint is a normal symptom during pregnancy. It is more common in the first trimester, but it may also be prevalent throughout your pregnancy.
