  • Can a Thyroid Nodule Cause Problems with Pregnancy?

    Dear Midwife,:
    This is my second pregnancy. The first resulted in a spontaneous abortion at week 7 back in February. I took 2 positive home tests last week, so I am about 5 weeks from first day of last menstrual period.

    My question is regarding the possibility of low thyroid levels. I have had a decent sized thyroid nodule for the past 8-10 years, but have been asymptomatic from what I can tell. I do not take any medication. Since I did have a prior miscarriage, I am concerned that low thyroid levels may have had something to do with it.

    I would like to ask if I should worry cause my first beta test 347.7 2wks into pregnancy 2/3/09, second was 3,332 2/9/09 and two days later I took another beta test. They told me I should double or reach 66% but it came back 4,635.

    Should my numbers be higher at this point?

    I found out I was pregnant recently but have had pains in my right side. I went to the Dr's who sent me to the hospital straight away, they took bloods which were 400hcg(14dpo). They then had bloods taken 40hrs and they had tripled to 1227.

    I am so confused. I am 2 days late for my period. Last week I did early result HPTs; 3 came up positive followed by 2 negative. I went to the doctor and he said most likely not. The same day I got a strange pain (which later found out was cramping), went to hospital and they did a blood test. It came back negative. When my period was due I did another hpt and came back positive and 4 have since. I went back to doctor for blood test which came back inconclusive -- just on the borderline of positive apparently.

    Dear Midwife,
    I recently had a blood test to see if I was pregnant; it came back negative. Could it have been too early to see? I am only a week late but have some symptoms that I had my last pregnancy. I use to be on a 28-day cycle but now it has gone to around 31 days and I am one week past that.

    My husband and I are trying. We have had two miscarriages and are getting discouraged. I know that I can carry a pregnancy as I have a two year old. We desperately want another. Does Geritol work?

    My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant now for the past 6 months. My last period was on May 15th 2004. I have had loads of pregnancy symptoms so I took a test which showed a weak positive. So I decided to wait a few days take another and that came up negative. On June 26th I started spotting and this was only light but last for about 30 minutes a day for 5 to 7 days.
