Fatigue, weight gain, constipation, insomnia, and lethargy... Is it possible that this woman is experiencing something more severe than the normal, early pregnancy symptoms? Could it be hypothyroidism?
Dear Midwife,
I am not sure what is going on. I was hoping you could help.
I had my last period at Christmas. It has only been a little past new years that it stopped and that was only about 10 days ago plus or minus a day. I should also mention that my fiancé and I had a broken condom during that time.
A healthy thyroid in a mother is crucial during the first three months of pregnancy. Lack of thyroid hormone affects the normal prenatal development of a baby's brain and also affects all the associated brain functions.
