  • Twins are Different Sizes

    QUESTION

    Dear Midwife,
I found out via ultrasound on October 28th that I am pregnant with identical twins (in the same sack). On 10/28, the larger twin (twin A) was measuring 5 weeks 6 days with a faint heartbeat. Twin B was smaller (I don't know how much smaller), and no heartbeat was detectable. 5 days later, on November 2, I had a follow-up ultrasound b/c of bleeding. Twin A is now measuring 7 weeks 4 days, and twin B is measuring between 5 weeks 6 days and 6 weeks 1 day. No heartbeat for twin B yet.

  • Turning Transverse Twins

    QUESTION

    Dear Midwife,
I've been crawling around on the floor, visiting the chiropractor and doing inversions to turn my 29 week twins. So far I haven't had any luck. They're both transverse.

I'm really committed to a vaginal birth. What else would you suggest I do?

    Thanks!

  • You're Having Twins...or more!

"A sonogram just confirmed that I'm carrying twins. I'm excited, but really, really nervous. Getting my head around having one baby on the way has been exciting and a little scary. Now I'm terrified. I don't know how I'll manage having two babies at once!" You will manage as a mother of twins, in ways you never thought possible...

  • Concerned About Twin Movement During Ultrasound

    QUESTION

    Dear Ms Ultrasound,
I am currently just over 18 weeks with twins achieved through IVF. I had an ultrasound last week and both heartbeats were good, but one baby was not moving. The doctor said not to worry probably just in a sleep cycle.

I had previous ultrasound at 14 weeks and one twin moved very little. I don't know if it was the same one or not. I go for a more advanced ultrasound in a couple weeks that was previously scheduled for 20 weeks.

  • Vaginal Ultrasound Accuracy

    QUESTION

    Dear Ms. Ultrasound,
I had the Mirena IUD but got pregnant anyway. It had not slipped or anything. I have a 5 yo, 3 yo, and fraternal twins 18 mos.

I am wondering about my ultrasound. My twins were not diagnosed until 12 weeks (having had a vaginal u/s at 8 weeks with no signs of another sac). My doctor said my hcg levels were high at first, but had started to level off with this pregnancy, so we had a vaginal u/s and showed only one sac (he said he estimated that I'm only 4-5 weeks)

  • Three Month Ultrasound with Twins

    QUESTION

    Dear Ms.Ultrasound,

  • Dreaming of Twins

    QUESTION

    Dear Ms. Ultrasound,
I am 6 weeks pregnant. Last week I had an extremly vivid dream that my first ultrasound showed twins. The next day I was cooking eggs for breakfast, when I cracked open the egg, low and behold, I had a twin egg, double yolk! I have been vividly dreaming of twins ever since.

My family is very old world Greek and extremely superstitious. I told my mother, who in turn told my great aunt. My great aunt called me this morning to congratulate me on the twins, which she is positive that I am having. She almost had me convinced!

  • Two Sacs...One Baby and Heartbeat

    QUESTION

    Dear Ms. Ultrasound,
Hi. I am 7 weeks 3 days and I had my first ultrasound last week. In the ultrasound, they saw what appeared to be two sacs. One had a visible baby with a good strong heartbeat, but one looked empty or at least we didn't see anything. The doctor came in and looked at the ultrasound and stated that it may only be one sac and there could be a thyroid pushing up in the middle of it to make it look like two.

  • Do I Require More Calcium When Pregnant with Twins?

    QUESTION

    Dear Nutritionist,
Hi I was just wondering if I should be taking more calcium than I am while pregnant with twins?

I take 120mg in my blackmores pregnancy tablets and,
    600mg worth of caltrate.

I don't really have much milk, but I do eat a fair amount of cheese.

What level do I need to reach when pregnant with twins and should I take more calcium supplements to get there as I do not really like dairy products or is there something else I can eat?

  • Twins - Double the Trouble!

It was a big shock when I found out I had two babies growing in me at the same time. I didn't know what to expect of the pregnancy, delivery, and oh my gosh how was I going to take care of two babies? No one can truly prepare you for twins but I am going to try to help.

  • Marie Chronicles -- Entry One

Today is November 15th, and I found out that I am pregnant with my fourth baby. I am not sure how far along I am, or even when I am due. I just know that I have a baby growing inside me and that my HCG levels are 84.

  • Marie Chronicles -- Labor Entry

This last month has been a total whirlwind. I'm finally able to sit here and recall the last moments of a beautiful, albeit hard journey in my life and to write them down, to remember forever what it was like the last weeks I was pregnant with my precious twin daughters.

  • Super Twins

    QUESTION

    Dear Midwife,
Hello. My fiancé and I went in for our first ultra sound today. They have discovered a second sack.

The first one is 7 weeks 4 days old. The second sack shows a just a yolk so they are not sure on age or if it didn't progress.

My mother is a super twin. She was conceived 1 month later than her twin sister.

Is it possible this could be the same scenario. What are the odds? Thank you very much for your time.

    Jesse

  • Marie Chronicles -- Entry Two

I went to my new OB today for my first prenatal appointment. Things went very well. I am very impressed with her and already like her a lot.

  • Is It Twins

    QUESTION

    Dear Ms. Ultrasound,
I had an ultrasound on Feb. 19th, 09 to confirm pregnancy and measured 4 weeks and 6 days.

The u/s tech that did my ultrasound told me the baby activity was at the bottom of the gestational sac where the white color was, but she said she forgot her glasses and couldn't see well since I was early.

But on the u/s I can clearly see two half circles that look like two different yolk sacs. Is it just me or could there possibly be two?

    Thank you.

  • Marie Chronicles -- Entry Three

This has been quite the week. I had to start progesterone supplements because my levels were only at 12.5 last week. They gave me 200 mgs to take once a day. It really scared me and I was so afraid that I was going to lose the baby.
