Dear Midwife,
I had a very hard and long labor with my second child. My midwife tried to break my bag of waters and found out that it had already broke.
The only thing is...I didn't notice it. I know my bag of waters did not break or I would have noticed. Apart from that I was full term, but my daughter only weighed in at 5# 3oz. What do you make of this? Could I have problems in a future pregnancy with low amniotic fluid?
What most expectant parent don't realize is that they truly are in charge of their baby's birthing. They get to choose the way the labor and birth go, as well as their baby's care after birth. It is no different than any other service that you pay for, except that it is much more important.
What went on in that bathroom is between my wife and me. But even in the chaos of the moment, it occurred to me that this would be the last moment we'd ever be alone without a child. And somehow it seemed fitting that we were spending it in the bathroom.
