Dear Midwife,
I have had a yeast infection throughout my entire pregnancy. My doctor has tested me for STD's and all are negative. He has prescribed metro gel to me. I have used this every few months. I am now on my 32 week and am using this prescription every other week.
Is there something stronger I can use or something I can change or do differently to help?
Natural yeast infection remedies are on the increase as women, especially, turn away from their mainstream treatments, and turn instead to natural treatments for their yeast infections. Here, you'll learn why this is happening, and, why this could be the natural solution you've been searching for.
Dear Midwife,
Hi. I'm 28 and pregnant with my first child, which is due April 21st. About a month ago I had a virus with diarrhea, vomiting and fever. the doctor gave me antibiotics which lead to a yeast infection so I took Monistat 7 day. Before this virus I had a typical pregnancy with no problems, not even morning sickness. I am monitored carefully by my endocrinologist because I have had Hashimotos Thyroiditis since the age of 12. The doctor had had to increase my dosage since the beginning of my pregnancy.
Dear Midwife,
I'm 25 years old and have always been very healthy. Currently I am 25 weeks pregnant and have already had two yeast infections (treated with Monistat 7), a bout of Bacterial Vaginosis (that was treated with Flagyl), and now due to the antibiotics I have Thrush, and possibly another yeast infection that I am waiting to confirm with the doctor tomorrow.
Fluconazole (Diflucan™) is a synthetic antifungal agent that can be used for the treatment of a variety of Candida albicans and other fungal infections. For the breastfeeding mother in particular, it can be used to treat recurrent Candida infections of the nipples...
I am 13 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child and for some reason I keep getting yeast infections. Is this normal? I have my first appointment coming up in a few days, but I'm getting a little worried. If possible can you give me some advice.
Dear Lactation Consultant,
I am a breastfeeding mother of a 5-week-old girl. For the first 2 weeks or so breastfeeding was going great. Then I developed mastitis in the right breast, and things have been bad since.
Although the course of antibiotics is complete, the right breast is still sore near the armpit area and seems to be producing way more milk than the left breast. I am afraid to pump it because I fear producing even more milk in that breast.
How can I get my supply in each breast to even out? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Candida (also called yeast, or thrush) is a fungus that occurs naturally in the mucous membranes and on the skin. Use of antibiotics promotes the overgrowth of yeast by killing off the 'good' bacteria that normally keep the yeast from multiplying too quickly. During pregnancy, yeast infections are more common because high levels of estrogen lead to elevated levels of sugar, and yeast feeds on sugar.

It is important that you are aware of the normal changes in vaginal discharge during pregnancy and inform your doctor about any changes that may appear abnormal.

Dear Lactation Consultant,
My son is almost 5 months old and my supply had decreased in the last month. It first began after I traveled for 2.5 days without him (I pumped the entire time). Now I am being treated for a yeast infection of the breast (I recently experienced soreness and minor bleeding).
My son also has a cold. He seems less interested in nursing. When given a choice between breast and bottle, he seems to prefer the bottle. I have just been treated for the yeast infection and he is concurrently receiving treatment for thrush.
