Having a due date close to the holidays can mean pressure from healthcare providers or family for pregnant women to schedule their baby's birth -- with induction or planned cesarean. But research shows that scheduled deliveries can be dangerous to moms and babies.
I was planning for a natural birth. Every girl imagines her first kiss, her wedding day and what it will feel like to have a baby. Part was through pregnancy, out of the blue, a friend said, "Oh, I've been meaning to tell you...if things don't go the way you have planned," she paused briefly, yet thoughtfully, "it's okay." For some reason, her words anchored themselves into my mind.
I was reading up on natural ways to induce labour (i dont wanna go past my due date lol) and i found somenting about taking semen orally to help induce. i mean i heard that it helps to soften the cervix through having sex, but orally? i have a sneeky suspicion that a man came up with that one.... im surprised it doesnt say that it only works if taken directly from the source! lol.... but if anyone knows of this actually working i may give it a try...... if im completely desperate that is lol.
Despite today's modern techniques, induction of labor still holds considerable risk compared to natural onset of birth. And most inductions are done for reasons simply not supported by sound medical research. So what is the driving force behind this culture of birth-on-demand?
Dear Midwife,I am expecting my seventh baby. My sixth was an emergency c section due to fetal distress (meconium). I want to have a VBAC. I found a midwife that is willing to help me and I asked her if I would be able to labor in the water. She said, "No. After having a C-sec, your scar could open up like a zipper when in the water so that would not be possible.
If your pregnancy is progressing normally, you probably will be visiting our doctors and nurses every other week during this time period. At 36 weeks gestation, your provider may schedule weekly visits until your baby arrives. At each visit you can expect the routine:
Your weight measured
Your blood pressure taken
Your urine analyzed
Your abdomen measured to check you baby's growth (fundal height)

What most expectant parent don't realize is that they truly are in charge of their baby's birthing. They get to choose the way the labor and birth go, as well as their baby's care after birth. It is no different than any other service that you pay for, except that it is much more important.
I got the head out, and the doctor said, "OK, little push," so I got the shoulders out, and again another little push and the doctor thought Mason's body would be out. But it took two more, since Mason was so long.
