  • 2 Yolk Sacs... Only One Visible Baby?

    QUESTION

    Dear Ms. Ultrasound,
Yesterday I had an ultrasound performed, and I left feeling very confused... the doctor estimated I was 8 weeks and 2 days pregnant based on my last menstrual cycle, but the ultrasound technician gave me no clue as to what the measurements were or how far along I really was. However, there were two yolk sacs on the screen! But there was only one baby visible, and the heartbeat was very very low, 65 bpm. There was only one gestational sac, as well. I have an appt. with a specialist, but I'm hoping that

  • Could I Be Pregnant?

    QUESTION

    Dear Midwife,
My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for a few years now. I have found out I have severe endometriosis, possible pcos, and a tilted uterus. My husband has a low sperm count.

Since my surgery in June this past year I have found my periods to be almost clockwork. This month my period was early and short. I have been sick this past weekend and have real bad diarrhea for the past week. Saturday I was having a lot of pelvic pain, back pain and vaginal pressure. Is there a chance I am pregnant or that I miscarried?

  • Blighted Ovum

    QUESTION

    Dear Ultrasound Expert,
I recently was diagnosed with blighted ovum. I am confused and disturbed. I went in to my OB excited about the possibility of being pregnant. I was approximately 6 weeks at that time. I was seen that day and an U/S was done. The technician advised that there was no baby yet but it was still very early. I was rescheduled for a second two weeks later.

  • Is There a Way to Explain Hormone Levels?

    QUESTION

    Dear Ms Ultrasound,
My last menstrual period was on June 23, 2004. I went off of the pill in April 2004 and had one 34 day cycle and one 31 day cycle. On August 1st, I took 2 positive home pregnancy tests. On August 23rd, I had my first appointment with my OB/GYN. He did an US but could not see an embryo (only the pregnancy and yolk sacs). He told us that since I should be 8 and a half weeks pregnant, he should be able to see something, and that he did not expect the pregnancy to be viable.

    Dear Ms Ultrasound,
Hi. I just had my ultrasound done today and I am 9 weeks pregnant. I am 32 years old and this is my 3rd pregnancy. I have one live child from my 1st pregnancy. Miscarried the 2nd pregnancy due to blighted ovum. The U/S technician first did the abdominal thing and found my uterus to be tipped and said she couldn't see anything. She had me empty my bladder and then proceeded to do a vaginal probe ultrasound. She looked for 5 minutes and claimed there was nothing there.
