  • Ab Tek Belt and Paracetamols

    QUESTION

    Dear Midwife,
I am now about 9 weeks pregnant. I found out I was pregnant in the second week. A day or two before I discovered I was pregnant I was using a tek belt. It's a vibrating belt used on the stomach as a work out. I used it for about half hour on the stomach at high intensity and about half hour on my back part or as they're called love handles. I wonder if this could have affected the baby's development in any way?

  • What is a "Wet Reading?"

    QUESTION

    Dear Ms Ultrasound,
I was just wondering what a "wet read" is during a prenatal ultrasound? I am going to be having another ultrasound in 2 weeks to check size and date, as my son is measuring almost 4 weeks large and no possible miscalculation of dates, but they have also requested a wet read and I can find no information on it. Any help would be appreciated.

  • What Happens With An Implantational Bleed?

    QUESTION

    Dear Ms Ultrasound,
Just curious to see if you could give me a little insight. Last week I had an ultrasound at 9 weeks. My dates matched up and the baby had a heart rate of 157 which I was told was good. However, they noticed a rather large bleed and they referred to it as an "implantation bleed". She said they commonly see this and usually you bleed or your body reabsorbs the blood. I have had no bleeding at all.

  • Too Heavy For an Ultrasound?

    QUESTION

    Dear Ms Ultrasound,
I was scheduled for a first trimester screening in my 11th week due to my advanced age; unfortunately, the perinatologist was of very little help because he basically lectured me on how difficult it is to do ultrasound in obese patients!

I learned very little about the status of my baby. He was unable to do the screening because the baby was measuring slightly too small. He then went on to discuss amniocentesis, but why would I allow him to put a needle in my uterus guided by an ultrasound that he already told me would not be accurate?
